Cancelling Canada Day

I am troubled by the decision to not celebrate Canada Day. My father, grandfathers, and great grandfathers fought in wars, tilled the land, paid their taxes, drove the trains, grew the grain to feed the people, looked after those who could not look after themselves and donated many hours to have this country that we live in today.

I have always said that we were very lucky that our forefathers came to Canada instead of immigrating to any other country. Now, I am not so sure. What happened 100 years ago has no bearing on today. Many errors were made in many countries and are still being made. We cannot judge people who lived at that time. They lived under entirely different circumstances than we do. The laws were different, but they have been changed as they needed to be. Nobody has a RIGHT to any more than their neighbour. We earn our living; we pay our taxes, and we donate to the charities that help those in need. Nothing is free, nor should it be.

We are the keepers of this land for our children’s children, etc. As such, we should be celebrating our accomplishment and acknowledging our forefathers for all they did so their children can carry on making Canada the Country to be proud of by all its inhabitants.

For those who are not happy, maybe we could give them an airline ticket to another country if there are any countries who would take them.

We are responsible for ourselves. The government is not our keeper, only our guidance. For those that want a free ride through government funds, remember that those neighbours of yours that you so want reconciliation with are the ones making the government funds.
